Granny is a first-person survival horror game developed by DVloper and released in 2017. You wake up in the dark house of a strange old woman and must find a way to escape before five days are up.

How to play Granny

In Granny, being trapped in the house of a deaf old woman doesn't mean she can't hear anything — on the contrary, her hearing is extremely sharp. Any sound, such as dropping an object, opening a door too forcefully, or stepping on a creaky floor, can cause Granny to immediately rush to the source of the sound. Therefore, the survival principle is to move slowly, observe, and utilize every hiding place, such as wardrobes or under the bed. However, if Granny sees you hiding, she won't let you go, so make sure she's not nearby.

The main goal is to find all the necessary items to unlock the exit. Their locations are randomly assigned in each game, so you can't memorize them; you have to discover each room yourself. Some important items include a winch handle to pull a bucket of water from the well in the backyard, a combination lock and pin to unlock the special lock on the front door, a remote control to open the cupboard under the stairs, a gear to open the safe in the playhouse, a wrench to assemble the car engine, and spark plugs and a battery for escaping in the car. There's also a piece of meat to lure the spider, a bird seed to lure the crow to retrieve items from its cage, and a watermelon containing many items inside.

You can use noise to distract Granny. For example, make noise in one room and then quickly move to another to do time-consuming tasks like opening boxes or picking locks. Granny has excellent hearing but isn't very smart, so she's easily fooled. When dropping items, drop them on soft surfaces like sofas, cupboards, tables, shelves, or the grass to avoid making noise. If you're spotted, you can run away — except in extremely difficult levels, you're much faster than Granny, and you can close doors to stop her.

Each time Granny catches you or traps you, you lose a day and wake up the following evening. You only have a total of five days to find your way out, so use your time wisely. Don't forget that recent Granny updates have added an achievement system, improved graphics, added a more manageable training mode, highlighted important items in the dark, and opened up many different escape methods for you to experiment with.

With its intense 3D horror atmosphere, thrilling direct gameplay, and breathtaking chases, Granny is a survival challenge that any horror fan should try at least once.
