Hello Neighbor

About Hello Neighbor

You climb through that window for the third time. Familiar. Fast. But this time something's wrong. A "click" under your feet. A bear trap. You can't escape. And heavy footsteps are approaching. Hello Neighbor is a stealth puzzle game where you break into your neighbor's house to find secrets in the basement. But the enemy doesn't stand still. He learns. And he waits for you to repeat the offense.

How to Counter the Neighbor's AI

Your neighbor doesn't follow a fixed script. He collects data on your every move. Your preferred entrance. Your familiar escape route. Your usual hiding places. Then he analyzes it and devises his own countermeasures.

Specifically: Use that window twice? There's a bear trap next time. Three times? He'll nail the window shut. Keep going up the stairs? A camera will appear there. He doesn't block every way. He waits for you to return to the same old route.

Reading His Four States

Based on observing his behavior in the game, your neighbor's AI can be divided into four states.

  • Idle: He sleeps, watches TV, exercises. This is the golden time to sneak in. But don't make any noise.
  • Hunt: He hears something. He checks but doesn't see you. He stops at checkpoints and looks around.
  • Attack: He sees you. He chases. He runs a little slower than you. Enough for you to escape if you know the way.
  • Offline: Rarely happens. Only in certain special situations.

The right way to distract him

Throw objects into another room. He'll come check. But don't overdo it. He remembers your usual tricks. If you keep throwing the radio, he'll start checking the radio before checking the sound.

Here's the specific sequence. When he's fixing the TV in the living room, you have about 8 seconds. Enough time to run down the hallway, into the kitchen, grab the golden key, and then back to your hiding place. Don't be greedy. Once you've got it, get out of there.

Where the real fear lies

Hello Neighbor doesn't scare with jump scares. The fear comes from the house changing after each time you lose. You turn around. The familiar window has been nailed shut. There's an extra camera in the corner of the hallway. A bear trap is in the exact spot you used to land. You're no longer safe in the place you knew so well. That's when you realize: he's waiting. And he knows you'll come back.

Survival Tips in Hello Neighbor

  • Don't run. Running attracts him immediately. Walking is safe enough.
  • Close the door behind you. Don't leave things lying around. He notices misplaced things.
  • If you get spotted, run back to your house. He can't cross the street.
  • Stack the boxes and put them on high ground. He doesn't jump out the window in some versions.

Hello Neighbor is for those who like to stalk, observe, and accept defeat to learn. If you want constant action, this game will frustrate you. But if you're curious about the secrets in that basement, then give it a try. Maybe you'll get in this time. But remember: he learned it last time.
